Visit the site between 17 August and 31 October every year to register to 'adopt' a child or old-age pensioner for whom you will put together a Shoebox of Love.
If you opt to 'adopt' a child, we will supply you with their name, age, gender, clothing and shoe size, their favourite colour and sport, grade at school, their hobbies and interests and ‘likes’. This will allow you to personalise your shoebox of love before dropping it off at one of our drop-off points for distribution.
Care packages for our aged folk are not personalised to the extent of the ones for the children. Rather we will supply you with a gender, age group and a list of content to include.
The Shoebox of Love Programme (‘Shoebox’) is manned completely by volunteers. We all have fulltime jobs and juggle these alongside Shoebox and our family commitments. We are always on the lookout for people who would like to get involved in the sorting and distribution of the boxes. If you are keen to 'get your hands dirty' and meet some truly wonderful people in the process, please drop us an email.
We know that with the frenetic pace of life today, it's not always possible to get personally involved. You can still make a difference by donating some of your hard earned moolah to the Shoebox cause.
How will this money be used? You can decide how we spend your money.
If you want to spoil a child or an old-age pensioner, we will go shopping on your behalf, make up the box, label it and add it to the boxes to be distributed. We would advise a sum of R300 per box. We are also very happy to accept partial donations of cash or contents, as these will be pooled together to make up as many Shoeboxes of Love and care packages as possible.
You can also donate money towards the costs of hosting a Christmas Tree event. The costs involved here include transport to the venue, venue hire, catering, refreshments, and entertainment and if sufficient funding allows, thank you gifts for the carers at the charity who look after or support the children and old folk.
Over the past 7 years the Anna Foundation and Shoebox have developed a wonderful relationship with the common goal of improving the lives of our rural children. The Shoeboxes of Love have become a highlight of the year for the Anna Foundation learners. We are very grateful for this beneficial initiative.
Masikhule is immensely grateful to Shoebox for their wonderful initiative to distribute gift boxes to the underprivileged children in our community. The magic they bring is immeasurable – and the joy in the eyes of the kiddies is very special to all of us. We appreciate being part of your outreach!
We have seen so much care going into each box, from the decorating of the boxes to the items chosen. Our children love the stickers and messages and ribbons decorating the boxes. We have, over the years, seen some of the most wonderful gifts given. Shoebox are an amazingly dedicated team. We are so grateful for their passion and perseverance that inspires others to pour out such love. Thank you guys, you are awesome.
