Thank you for such an amazing day and for opening your hearts to our children. I can't tell you how special it is to see all the smiles on their faces. Am already looking forward to 2011! – Sonja Krause, Bathandwa Day and Night Shelter

There are three main ways in which you can get involved:

  1. ‘Adopt’ a child, make up a ‘box of joy’ and drop it off. We’ll do the rest!
  2. Donate your time.
  3. Donate your money.

Becoming a sponsor

If you would like to sponsor a child, please click on the hot pink button in the top right hand corner of our website and complete the registration form.) Once you have selected the child/ren you would like to sponsor, we’ll supply you with a label for your shoebox and a check list. Stick the label(s) supplied to the top right corner of your shoebox before you drop them off. This will make sure your box gets to the child for whom it was intended.

Donating your time

Shoebox is manned completely by volunteers. Most of us have full time jobs and juggle these alongside Shoebox and our family commitments. We are always on the lookout for people who would like to get involved in the sorting and distribution of the boxes. If you are keen to 'get your hands dirty' and meet some truly wonderful people in the process, please email us.

Donating your money

We know that with the frenetic pace of life today, it's not always possible to get involved. You can still make a difference by donating some of your hard earned moolah to the Shoebox cause.

How will this money be used?

You can decide how we spend your money.

If you want to spoil a child, we will go shopping on your behalf, make up the box, label it and add it to the boxes to be distributed. We would advise a sum of R200 per box. We are also very happy to acccet partial donations, as these will be pooled together to make up as many boxes as possible.

Alternatively, you can also donate money towards the costs of hosting the Christmas tree events. The costs involved here include transporting the kids to the venue, the venue hire, catering, refreshments, entertainment (think jumping castles, face-painters and clowns), and if sufficient funding allows, thank you gifts for the carers at the charity to which the children belong.
